Established in the 1920's, Lamont is an unincorporated Census Designated Place of 19,000 residents in Kern County, a few miles southeast of Bakersfield. It adjoins unincorporated Weedpatch, home to another 3000 people. Both communities grew substantially during the Dust Bowl migration. Grimmway Farms, the largest grower, producer, and shipper of carrots in the world, operates in and around Lamont.
